NEW YORK (AP) — Former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords said gun violence is a women’s issue and women can lead the way in pushing for laws to stop it.
Giffords was shot in the head at a event for constituents in Tucson in January 2011.
She resigned from Congress and has become a gun control advocate.
Giffords spoke Monday in New York City. Her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, was by her side.
The Daily News of New York reported that Giffords seemed much improved since her ABC News interview in November 2011.
Giffords gave one-word answers to Diane Sawyer then, but on Monday she read from a prepared speech and answered questions.
She said her schedule these days includes yoga, French horn, Spanish lessons and bike riding.
