Authorities rescue 5 hikers at a Tucson state park

TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities have rescued five hikers at Catalina State
Park in Tucson.

Pima County Sheriff’s officials say one of the hikers had to be carried out
after suffering from heat exhaustion Wednesday afternoon.

They say the 20-year-old woman from Illinois was taken by ambulance to a Tucson
hospital for treatment.

Three other hikers were evaluated in the parking lot by fire department crews
for heat-related issues.

Sheriff’s officials say seven people began the hike about 6 a.m. Wednesday but
two turned around because of rising heat.

The remaining five headed to Romero Pools but temporarily got lost before
finding the trail and hiking toward their vehicles.

One of the hikers called her mother, who called 911 and requested assistance
for the group.

None of the names of the hikers were released.
