Phoenix ties record daily high of 110 degrees

PHOENIX — An excessive heat warning now has been extended through Thursday
for the Phoenix metropolitan area and several communities in southern Arizona.

The National Weather Service says the high temperature in the Phoenix area
reached 110 degrees on Monday, which tied the record for the date set in 2006.

They say the normal temperature this time of year is about 100 degrees.

Meteorologists say highs in the Phoenix area are expected to be around 107 to
109 for the next three days.

Excessive heat warnings also have been issued for Tucson, Nogales, Sierra
Vista, Safford, Willcox and parts of the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Authorities are urging people to drink plenty of water, wear hats and
light-colored clothing and avoid spending time outside during the peak heat
hours of the day.
