PHOENIX — A Phoenix pool will reopen this week after a five-year closure.
The Cortez Pool, along with all other city pools, will open on May 24 with a re-opening celebration scheduled for June 6. Councilwoman Thelda Williams will oversee the re-opening celebration from 6 to 8 p.m.
The pool, originally closed for structural damage, has been completely redone. The main pool was rebuilt along with a separately constructed kiddy pool with zero-depth entry. Other improvements include play equipment, additional shading, new turf, new LED lighting and two new water slides.
The rebuilding cost $3.3 million and was funded by the Phoenix Parks and Preserve Initiative.
