Arizona hears some complaints about graduation ceremony difficulties

TUCSON, Ariz. — Some University of Arizona graduates are complaining about
overcrowding, long waits and lack of water at the school’s 150th Commencement

Grads were told to arrive at Arizona Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Saturday for the
ceremony that began two hours later and had to wait in an outdoor holding area
under the football facility in 99-degree heat.

Some students told the Arizona Daily Star they were
crammed into a small place and felt like cattle.

They also said water was unavailable after drinking cups ran out.

A university spokeswoman said about 4,000 graduates sent RSVPs for the event, which is about 1,000 more RSVPs than last year’s ceremony.

Some grads said after the field seats were filled, students were told to sit in
the stadium behind a video screen.
