Survey ranks Phoenix drivers among the least courteous

If you get mad in traffic today, you probably won’t be alone.

Believe it or not, you’re more likely to get involved in road rage right here in the Valley, according to a new AutoVantage road rage survey.

“Phoenix was the sixth-least courteous city,” said AutoVantage Vice President Robert DiPietro. “(Phoenix drivers) are the most likely to acknowledge themselves speeding. It’s about 50 percent higher than the national average.”

Houston drivers are the least courteous on the survey, while drivers in Portland, Ore., are the most courteous.

DiPietro said that American drivers are behaving better in some ways.

“Overall in the nation, we found aggressive driving down and distracted driving down,” DiPietro said. “But cursing or ‘flipping the bird’ is up across the board. I think people are venting their frustration in different ways and have less tolerance. As the traffic picks up in different cities, they get more and more frustrated every day.”
