MESA, Ariz. — Funeral services for Mesa policeman Brandon Mendoza are being held Friday.
The service will start at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church at Recker and McLellan roads followed by burial at nearby Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
“I didn’t get to know him as well as I’d hoped I would have … I always assumed there would be more time,” Police Chief Frank Milstead said.
Mendoza died early Monday morning in a crash with a wrong-way driver at an interchange at U.S. 60 and Interstate 10. The 13-year veteran of the force had been driving home from a shift.
He was posthumously promoted to sergeant Thursday.
Road closures will be in place to westbound traffic on Baseline Road between Stapley and Gilbert roads from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
