PHOENIX — A group of Arizona State University students gifted a beloved dining hall worker with the trip of a lifetime on Thursday, according to ASU News.
Vicke Davis was moved to happy tears when students at Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University gifted her with the trip of her dreams, a trip to visit Canada to view the Northern Lights.
Dozens of Barrett students presented Davis, known to students as the “Barrett momma,” with a check for $2,350 and a camera to take with her on her trip. Much of the money was raised by students through an online fundraiser.
Davis exclaimed over and over again that she was thankful for her students.
“This is unbelievable. I just love my Barrett babies. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said as students awarded her with the check, according to ASU News.

Barrett student Quintin Woods was inspired to fulfill Davis’ dream after having a conversation with her last fall about what her dream trip would be and began a GoFundMe page to raise money soon after. Woods said in an interview with ASU News that Davis would always offer great service and encouragement to her “Barrett babies.”
On the GoFundMe page, which had an original goal of $2,000, Woods said Davis provided students with the “utmost care and graditude.”
“Her daily Facebook posts have made us laugh and her hugs have made us feel warm inside,” the page read. “Many of us will go to swipe in for a meal in the midst of a long and stressful day and Vicke will provide the caring attitude that makes our day just a little bit better. I know many of us have been touched by the kind actions of Vicke. She looks at each of us as her children.”
Woods said in an interview with ASU News he would like to see other students find ways to give back to those who are deserving in their community.
Davis is planning to take her trip in March during the students’ Spring Break.
