KYKOTSMOVI, Ariz. — The state is encouraging residents of northeastern
Arizona to recycle unwanted electronics.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is hosting a recycling event
Saturday at the village of Kykotsmovi (Key-COATS’-moh-vee) on the Hopi
reservation. Organizers anticipate receiving televisions, computer equipment,
monitors, batteries, DVD players, fax machines and cameras.
Residents of surrounding communities on the Hopi and Navajo reservations also
are welcome to drop off electronics.
Department director Henry Darwin said 50 tons of waste had been collected at
two previous recycling events on the Hopi reservation.
The department has collected 2.4 million pounds of electronics waste since the
recycling program began in August 2009.
