PHOENIX — A woman suspected of kidnapping a toddler and setting an Amber Alert into motion this week has been found and arrested.
Anna Marie Johnson, 19, was taken into custody Thursday night by Gila River police. She had disappeared after abandoning 2-year-old Eric W. Smith Jr. in a van she had taken from the Smith family’s home in Coolidge. She was baby-sitting. The boy was found safe early Wednesday morning on the Gila River Indian Community after being missing for over 10 hours. He was 50 miles from home.
Johnson was charged with kidnapping and theft of a means of transportation. She was found at a family member’s house in Phoenix.
