PHOENIX — A simple device recently installed on road repair trucks is leading to both big savings and environmental benefits, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The agency recently installed ADOT-designed oil-spray guards on its trucks. They are designed to give better control over the oil sprayed during pavement preservation projects.
“We’re very happy with the results,” said ADOT Equipment Services Administrator Devin Darlek in a press release. “We’re seeing savings in time and money while protecting landscaping with the use of spray guards. It’s a good example of ADOT’s efforts to be good stewards of both the environment and taxpayer dollars.”
ADOT also installed basins at numerous yards around the state to catch and dispose oil removed from trucks during the washing process. The agency also designed the basins.
