PHOENIX — Two teenagers have been charged with
manslaughter after a street-racing crash in Phoenix that police said caused the death of a landscaper.
Phoenix police said 61-year-old Octavio Grijalva Herrera died of his injuries
Sunday after he was critically injured in the March 26 crash.
A 17-year-old boy apparently was racing a 16-year-old boy when the
younger teen’s car allegedly ran a stop sign. That touched off a five-vehicle
An exterminator’s pickup truck collided with a car before the truck
went into a yard where the landscaper was working.
Police said the 16-year-old fled the scene after the crash but the other teen
was detained for questioning.
Court records showed the teens also were indicted for drag racing,
aggravated assault and numerous endangerment charges.
