PHOENIX — Arbor Day is next month, but third-grade students from Desert Mirage Elementary in Glendale celebrated a bit early Friday.
Several dozen children spent the morning planting several Chinese Elm trees at Desert Mirage Park.
“We need to celebrate trees because they help us have oxygen,” said 9-year-old Madison. “I’m excited. I get to actually plant one.”
Glendale has been designated as a Tree City USA and annually celebrates Arbor Day with tree plantings in city parks. At Friday’s special event, Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers read the city’s Arbor Day Proclamation.
After the proclamation, a representative from the Arizona State Forestry Division presented the Tree City USA plaque.
