Report: Arizona per-pupil spending lowest in US

PHOENIX — Arizona spent the lowest on students in the nation, a report said.

The report, issued by the National Education Association, said Arizona had the lowest average per-pupil spending during the 2012-13 school year at $6,949.

Arizona trailed Utah, Oklahoma, Indiana and Texas, respectively, in spending. The average expenditure per pupil was $10,938.

Overall, the state that spent the most per pupil was Vermont with $19,752. It was followed by New York, New Jersey, Alaska and Rhode Island, respectively.

Arizona has 627 public school districts that over see slightly more than one million students.
