Glendale seeks manslaughter charge for MCSO deputy

PHOENIX — Glendale police investigators are recommending a manslaughter
charge be filed against a Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy involved in a fatal
crash last year.

They say deputy Sean Pearce allegedly was driving his unmarked vehicle 81 mph
in a 40 mph zone on Dec. 16 and crashed into another car. The 63-year-old driver
of the other vehicle later died at a hospital.

Glendale police have submitted the case file to County Attorney Bill
Montgomery, who confirmed Wednesday that the case is under review.

Pearce says he was working with homicide detectives who were conducting
surveillance on a possible suspect at the time of the crash.

Sheriff’s officials say an internal affairs investigation into the crash won’t
begin until the criminal portion is completed.
