Pima County narrows down issues related to 911 outage

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has identified two
issues related to why its new 911 system failed for 23 minutes.

The outage Monday afternoon affected 54 callers to the emergency line.

The department’s dispatch center moved last weekend to a new facility in Tucson.

The $102 million Pima County Wireless Integrated Network is a new emergency
radio dispatch system that will allow first responders from various local
agencies to talk to one another on radios.

Sheriff’s officials said they’re investigating to determine what caused the
outage from 2:43 p.m. to 3:06 p.m.

Of the 54 missed calls, 26 were either duplicate calls or internal testing
calls. Eighteen of the remaining calls were contacted to determine their
