Foundation for child victim of Tucson shooting to close, gave away $1M

TUCSON, Ariz. — The foundation created in the memory of a 9-year-old
Tucson girl killed in a Jan. 8, 2011 mass shooting is being shut down after
giving away nearly $1 million.

The Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation has provided funding for dozens
of local projects. The Arizona Daily Star reported they
included grief-support programs, laptops for schools, services for homeless
students and a new school playground.

John Green said the foundation provided the family with a way to keep his
daughter remembered in the community. And Roxanna Green says the foundation and
its work helped her heal after the death of her daughter.

The shooting outside a supermarket where then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords
was meeting with constituents resulted in six deaths. Giffords was among an
additional 13 people injured.
