Man rescued from cliff in Phoenix mountain park

PHOENIX — Phoenix firefighters have rescued a man who was stuck on steep
cliff about 300 feet above a park.

Fire department officials said concerned hikers called 911 around 9:30 a.m.
Sunday to report an adult male standing in a cliff area where there was not
footing or hand holds available.

Authorities said rescue crews hiked up and used a rappel system to reach the
man, who was combative with them.

They said the man’s combative behavior made putting him in a safety harness

Firefighters were able to bring the man down to a safer part of the mountain
and placed him on a stretcher.

Officials said he was taken to a hospital but have not determined how he ended
up there or why he was combative.
