PHOENIX — Two crashes and two ruined fences later, Tempe Police arrested a man who stole an empty neighborhood transit bus Tuesday morning.
Police said the suspect, 21-year-old Patric Moonie, took the Orbit city bus, which had been left running, from the transit center on Fifth Street near Sun Devil Stadium.
Moonie’s joyride continued despite running the small bus into a backyard wall near 13th Street and Mill Avenue. A witness called 911 to report the crash.
The thrillseeking ended shortly thereafter, when Moonie drove into a wall of a house near Mill Avenue and 15th Street. He jumped the fence into the yard of a man who was home. The homeowner and his dogs wrestled the man to the ground and waited for police.
The small bus carries passengers to residential areas in Tempe.
