PHOENIX — The Arizona House of Representatives has voted down a bill that
would revoke a requirement that corporate public notices be published in
Legislators killed House Bill 2554 by Republican Rep. John Kavanagh of Fountain
Hills with a 24-33 vote on Thursday.
The bill would have forced the Arizona Corporation Commission to post public
notices on its website instead of requiring that they be published in
Kavanagh says the publishing requirement is costly and anti-business.
A broader but similar bill that would have exempted local governments from the
public notices publication requirement failed last year.
Opponents say removing the requirement could lead to a loss of transparency and
hurt small newspapers that rely on the ad revenue.
