As the head coaches of Ohio State and Notre Dame prepared for a battle on the field in the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl, their wives teamed up.
The two women brought hundreds of fans together to package meals for the homeless at Saint Mary’s Food Bank.
“(We want) to show our appreciation for the hospitality that we have received from the Phoenix and Scottsdale area,” Shelly Meyer said.
Meyer is the wife of Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.
She said giving back to the host city community during their bowl game has been a tradition at the school for nearly two decades. Meyer said she makes it a point to invite the opposing fans and head coach’s wife to join them.
“And we are so happy that Notre Dame’s coach’s wife and their group accepted our invitation,” she said.
Employees at Saint Mary’s said the number of packaged meals prepared by the fans would likely be in the thousands.
