PHOENIX — Police are offering a reward up to $5,000 for information on a suspect who allegedly shot and killed a man outside a Phoenix-area casino on Christmas Eve.
John Albert Campos Sr., 47, is considered a federal fugitive after allegedly killing retired police officer Frank Pascua at 9 p.m. on Thursday, said Gila River Police detective Robert Hawkes. Campos, who Hawkes said is armed and dangerous, was named a suspect after the police cleared his son-in-law, 25-year-old Frank Rojas, of any wrongdoing.
Rojas was initially a person of interest in the casino shooting.
“Mr. Rojas and Mr. Campos have similar physical features,” Hawkes said Saturday. “They also have matching tattoos. They are both very covered in tattoos in their upper-bodies.”
Campos is 5-foot-6, weighs 190 pounds and currently has a shaved head.
According to Hawkes, Campos allegedly stole a car after killing Pascua. Police have recovered that vehicle but after monitoring several locations have not yet found Campos, who has prior convictions for violent crimes.
Police do not believe Campos and Pascua knew each other prior to Thursday.
Pascua, 52, was a retired former Bakersfield police officer who had a winter home in the Valley.
Hawkes asks for anyone who knows Campos’ whereabouts or about the confrontation call detective Vanessa Turner 520-610-9000 or Hawkes at 520-610-2791.
