Man facing murder charge in fatal Tucson collision

TUCSON, Ariz. — Police in Tucson have arrested a 28-year-old man who they
say caused a collision that left one man dead.

Sgt. Chris Widmer said Juan M. Hernandez-Rodriguez was booked into Pima County
Jail for one count each of second-degree murder, aggravated assault,
endangerment and felony criminal damage.

Authorities said Hernandez-Rodriguez was driving a Chevrolet Impala while under
the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs early Saturday when he rear-ended a
Honda Civic near 6th Avenue and Illinois Street.

Widmer said the male driver of the Honda, which caught fire, was pronounced
dead at the scene.

He said bystanders of the collision helped pull out a 22-year-old male
passenger from the Honda. That passenger is hospitalized with life-threatening

Police said a 24-year-old passenger riding with Hernandez-Rodriguez only had
minor injuries.
