Movies in a Minute: ‘The Hateful Eight’

Dec 24, 2015, 11:00 AM

Quentin Tarantino tackles a post-Civil War action-packed Western starring Jeff Bridges and Samuel L. Jackson in his newest film, “The Hateful Eight.”

“The Hateful Eight” is about a bounty hunter named John “The Hangman” Ruth, played by Russell, and his prisoner, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, who encounter another bounty hunter, played by Jackson.

Attempting to find shelter from a blizzard, the group comes across a stopover located within a mountain. After they encounter a group of strangers at the mountain pass, they soon learn they might not survive to the end of their trip.

The nearly 4-hour long film (very Tarantino-esque) even has a 10-minute intermission for viewers to get up and refresh.

Although I felt the first half was quite slow and could even be skipped, the second half of the movie picks up enough to make this film a must-see.

I give “The Hateful Eight” a solid four out of five stars, even though I felt I could have skipped the entire first half.
