TUCSON, Ariz. –Former U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi is seeking a 60-day delay for
his opening brief filing as he appeals his convictions on public corruption and
money laundering charges.
Renzi’s brief is due Friday with the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. His
motion seeks an extension until April 8, citing the case’s complexity.
Renzi was to have started serving his three-year prison sentence in January.
That’s been temporarily delayed pending court action on his appeal.
Federal prosecutors are opposing Renzi’s request to remain out of prison while
he appeals his June 2013 convictions.
Renzi represented Arizona’s 1st Congressional District from 2003 to 2009.
He didn’t run for re-election in 2008 while facing a federal indictment. He was
