Judge enters not guilty plea for teen in strangulation-sex death

PHOENIX — A judge has entered a not guilty plea on behalf of a 16-year-old
Glendale girl who police said strangled a man during an apparent sex act.

Prosecutors have charged her as an adult with second-degree murder.

Jason Ash was found dead Jan. 18. Police say the 43-year-old man was found on a
bed with an electrical cord around his neck.

Authorities said the girl told investigators he died during consensual
strangulation and that the pair often engaged in such acts.

The not guilty plea was entered Wednesday. Another hearing is set for March.

The Associated Press is not naming the girl to protect her identity because she
is a minor and was not of legal age to consent to sex with Ash. Sex with a minor
is a felony under Arizona law.
