PHOENIX – A 16-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department fired his gun at a man at the Desert Point Apartments early Sunday morning.
“There was several shots fired and multiple calls about these shots coming from this apartment complex,” said Sgt. Vince Lewis.
As four officers searched the area of 64th Avenue and McDowell Road, Lewis said one officer encountered a man on the southern border of the complex and “perceived a threat and delivered one round toward the subject.”
An adult male was taken into custody, a handgun was recovered at the scene and no one was hurt.
It wasn’t clear if anyone had been hit by the earlier shots fired or if this was a case of celebratory gunfire, which is illegal in the city of Phoenix.
“It does not appear at this time that anyone was harmed, however, those bullets travel far and travel fast,” Lewis said.
