Trial of former MCSO programmer set for July

PHOENIX — A July 23 trial has been set for the former top computer
programmer for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office charged with hacking agency computers.

Robert Rampy is accused of using log-on information belonging to a current
sheriff’s employee and a county-owned laptop to access the agency’s computers
after he resigned in September 2012 to purse another job.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges of identity theft, computer tampering, and
unauthorized release or access to criminal history records.

MCSO said Rampy used databases intended solely for police
officers to see whether three people he knew were in county custody and had outstanding warrants.
