PHOENIX — The holiday season is officially in full swing and, to celebrate, the Arizona Diamondbacks hosted hundreds of elementary school children from across the Valley to participate in their 18th Annual Winter Classic celebration at Chase Field.
As a part of the celebration, kids were treated to wiffleball games, an extensive petting zoo and the chance to get their picture taken with the one and only Santa Claus.
Arizona Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall said the party gave kids an opportunity to kick back, let loose and celebrate in a Major League Baseball stadium.
“There’s not a worry in the world once they’re inside (Chase Field)” he said. “It’s all about fun and getting ready for the holidays.”
Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley even got the chance to participate in the party by playing wiffleball with the kids. He said he was honored to be a part of the special event.
“It’s got to be a great day for them, it’s even better for me,” he said. “I’m just happy the D-Backs are holding this and glad I could be a part of it.”
The kids didn’t go home empty-handed: They were gifted a pair of shoes, Diamondbacks sweatshirt and even a drawstring bag to carry all their holiday goodies in.
