Arizona not adding more medical marijuana uses

PHOENIX — Arizona is again turning down proposals to expand the state’s
medical marijuana program.

Department of Health Services Director Will Humble previously rejected adding
more medical conditions that would allow medical marijuana use.

His latest action denies petitions requesting that use of medical marijuana be
allowed for post-traumatic stress disorder, migraines and depression.

Humble said a review found limited scientific evidence for permanently
adding those conditions to those already in state law.

Specifically, Humble said there’s a lack of published data on the risks and
benefits of using marijuana to treat or provide relief for the additional
conditions.

He said the state will accept a new round of petitions during the last week of
January.

Medical conditions accepted for medical marijuana use include cancer and
chronic pain.
