Phoenix marathon to shut down some roads

PHOENIX — Officials are warning drivers to be aware of road closures for the 11th annual P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon and ½ Marathon.

More than 25,000 runners are expected to swarm streets in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe on Sunday morning.

Marathon officials say most of the closures and detours will take place between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

A bike tour will begin at 7:15 a.m. and the other races will start at 7:50 a.m.

According to the race website, police will reopen the streets on a rolling basis.

Closed streets include Camelback Road from 24th Street to Arcadia Drive and Washington Street from 1st to 7th avenues.

An off-ramp at 7th Avenue on westbound I-10 and one at Van Buren Street on westbound Loop 202 will also be closed.
