PHOENIX — The North Pole may be considered the home of Father Christmas, but one Phoenix-area street will likely give it a run for its money.
Comstock Drive, near Elliot and Higley roads in Gilbert, was selected as one of the best Christmas lights display in the nation by ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight.”
The show pits several light displays from across the U.S. against one another in each episode. The Gilbert street beat out others in Celebration, Florida and Waipahu, Hawaii to take the prize in Episode 3 of the current season.
In the episode, Comstock Drive residents took host Carter Oosterhouse up in a hot air balloon to see the entirety of the display, which is spread across 13 homes.
After being airborne, Oosterhouse praised the precision of the lights, especially the lines created by miniaturized Christmas trees. He was also treated to a flash mob.
A Facebook page for the street’s light display said there are more than 110,000 lights and 285 strobe lights run via 50,000 feet of wiring. The street is open for public viewing at the hours below:
• 6-10 p.m., Monday through Thursday
• 6-10:30 p.m., Friday through Sunday
Those who take a drive down Comstock should tune in to 93.9 FM to hear music that is synced with the lights.
