Police: Arizona won’t legalize warning shots

PHOENIX — Florida lawmakers continue to move forward with a bill which would keep a person who fires a warning shot from doing a long stint in prison.
Similar legislation would not fly here in Arizona because of current state laws.
“Breaking the law, potentially injuring someone,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos said of the risks. “Currently, you do something like that, you are in violation of the law.”
Arizona law prohibits “a person, with criminal negligence, discharges a firearm within or into the limits of any municipality, and they are less than one mile from any occupied structure.”
Firing off a warning round could result in multiple charges, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
