$1M bond set for Glendale man accused in baby’s death

PHOENIX — Bond is set at $1 million for a Glendale man accused in the
death of his infant daughter in 2011.

Phoenix police said specialists in pediatric forensic pathology recently
classified the manner of death as a homicide.

James Anthony Sirmans, 28, was arrested Tuesday on
suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse.

He didn’t have a lawyer at his initial court appearance Wednesday.

Phoenix police received a 911 call on New Year’s Eve in 2011 about a
9-month-old girl who wasn’t breathing.

Sirmans told police that he put his daughter down for a nap in the second story
of his apartment. He returned to check on her 30 minutes later and found her in
need of medical attention.

The baby was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
