Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who tried to rob a Big 5 sporting good store by telling the clerk he had a bomb.
Police say a white male, approximately 55 years old, walked into the sporting good store on Dec. 3 located in the 3500 block of East Thomas Road in Phoenix with a box and demanded the clerk give him money. When the clerk said no, the man told her the box contained a bomb and he would set it off. The clerk again refused to give him money and the man left with store and the box. The box ultimately contained no bomb.
“With world events as they are, everyone is asked to remain extra vigilant. The fact that someone would utilize this manner of threat in this robbery attempt is bothersome,” Phoenix police said via a press release.
Police describe the suspect as 5 foot 8 inches tall weighing 190 pounds. He had a black knit cap and a black and white checkered shrit with dark pants.
