PHOENIX — A downtown Phoenix area is rumored to be developed into a shopping center with a grocery store, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
Block 23, a downtown Phoenix area most well known for housing many Super Bowl XLIX events in January, is rumored to be developed into a shopping center area possibly including a long-needed grocery store.
RED Development, the property management company behind CityScape and Collier Center in downtown Phoenix, is rumored to be looking at developing Block 23, according to the article. If the development were to go through, it would be under the CityScape banner.
The property is rumored to include a Fry’s Food grocery store, a development that RED Development Marketing and Communications Director Stephanie Whitlow would be an “excellent addition” to the area.
According to the article, the developed property would likely be owned by the city of Phoenix but allocated development rights to RED Development.
Fry’s Food spokeswoman Jo Ellen Lynn did not comment directly on the potential development, saying instead the company is “always looking at opportunities for store projects throughout Arizona,” according to the article.
Currently, Block 23 is a parking lot surrounded by First and Second and Washington and Jefferson streets.
