Phoenix man sentenced in fatal 2011 shooting

PHOENIX — A man has been sentenced to at least 36 years in prison in a
fatal 2011 shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 38-year-old Jamal Mitchell was sentenced

He received 25 years to life in prison for first-degree murder, a consecutive
11.25-year term for armed robbery and a concurrent 10-year sentence for
misconduct involving weapons.

Mitchell was accused in the September 2011 shooting of 28-year-old Nathaniel

Court documents show Mitchell and three other people met Kinsley at a fast-food
restaurant for a drug deal.

The group decided to complete the transaction at the apartment complex where
one of them lived.

At the complex, Mitchell and Kinsley walked away from the group. Shots were
heard and witnesses say Mitchell had a gun when he returned.
