GRAND CANYON, Ariz. — The seasonal closure of vehicle access to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon has begun.
Grand Canyon National Park officials said the projected reopening date for State
Route 67 and all North Rim services is May 15.
The North Rim campground and yurt remain available for winter camping, and are
can be reached via inner canyon trails from the South Rim or by cross-country
skiing and snowshoeing from Jacob Lake, a 45-mile trip.
Backcountry permits are required, and park officials said visitors planning to
visit the North Rim during winter must be self-reliant and know that emergency
responses may be limited or delayed.
