UPDATE: This case was solved as of Jan. 19, 2016, police said.
A grieving family and a terrified neighborhood — this case happened Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 about 8 p.m.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild said 24-year-old German Del Bosque and his long-time girlfriend had just picked up some takeout and were walking home along Seventh Avenue just north of Interstate 17.
“It’s not known what occurred,” Rothschild said. “But the two suspects, who were very young, ended up stabbing [Del Bosque] to death.”
Phoenix Homicide Detective Cristie Eisentraut said Del Bosque’s girlfriend escaped.
“She was wearing slippers and she ran so fast her slippers flew off,” she said. “She ran barefoot the rest of the way.”
The suspects, a Hispanic boy about 16 years old and a Hispanic girl about 14, were riding BMX or Mongoose-style bikes. They fled east into the neighborhood.
“We don’t have reason to believe that either German or his girlfriend knew their attackers,” Rothschild said.
Del Bosque grew up in the Valley and was very close to his sisters. He was, by all accounts, a good guy who didn’t get into trouble. His family described him as fun-loving and laid back.
Investigators worry, though, that no witnesses in the neighborhood will come forward.
“A lot of them fear potential retaliation,” Eisentraut said. “But there’s strength in numbers. The more people who come forward and help us, the more they can make their community stronger and safer.”
