PHOENIX — Veterans in Maricopa County will soon have more options for receiving support services from local community colleges.
Leaders within the Maricopa Community Colleges system announced Thursday their plan to create a statewide program to provide support to veterans and their families as they transition to civilian life.
“It is a multimillion (dollar), multiphase initiative to increase the support services that we can provide and should provide to our veteran students,” Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick, MCCC executive vice chancellor and provost, said.
The coordinated effort will cost several million dollars and is expected to take about five years to establish additional permanent services for veterans. They will offer support in areas such as career preparedness, housing, and healthcare.
“It will ensure that our veterans feel welcome and supported at the level that they should be supported as they turn back and integrate themselves,” she said.
