PHOENIX — Drive hammered; Get nailed.

It might not be as catchy as “Peas and Guac,” but the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is staying old school and sticking with their classic mantra after launching a statewide DUI task force for this holiday season.

“To those who would make the selfish decision to drink and then get behind the wheel of a car and put others at risk, you will face serious sanctions,” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said.

The message is heard around the state every year, but law enforcement officials believe it sometimes falls on deaf ears. In 2014, there were 29,250 DUI arrests made in Arizona with an average known blood alcohol content of nearly double the legal limit.

Montgomery’s office is part of the statewide holiday DUI enforcement task force. He said he is encouraging party-goers to get a designated driver, a cab, or use a ride-sharing service such as Uber or Lyft because drinking and driving is not worth the risks.

“We are well staffed and well prepared to help you spend the holidays behind bars and we will do all that we can to hold you accountable in order to deter you from killing or hurting others,” he said.

We want to hear from you.
