The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has canceled an Amber Alert that was issued late Saturday night for two girls that went missing in Buckeye.
Mariela Cheno, 1, and Sophina Mesquita,8, have been safely recovered after they were taken by their 16-year-old sister between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday.
According to police, Shilate Mesquita left to babysit her two sisters before the unlicensed driver allegedly took a 2003 GMC Yukon with both siblings.
According to police, the 16-year-old Mesquita threatened suicide sometime last month and was on medication for depression before she stopped taking it two days ago.
