TUCSON, Ariz. — A Tucson man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in a
deadly home invasion.
Pima County prosecutors say 26-year-old Mario Hipolito Enriquez was sentenced
He was convicted of second-degree murder for killing 74-year-old William Herr
in the November 2010 home invasion.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that at his June trial,
Enriquez says he went to Herr’s home to help a friend collect a supposed drug
Enriquez’s attorney claims his client was defending himself when Herr was shot.
Prosecutors accused Enriquez of lying to police and concocting a cover story to
downplay his involvement in Herr’s death.
Authorities say Herr was shot four times with an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle and
Enriquez then fled to Mexico.
The other suspect in the home invasion is awaiting trial.
