The Phoenix City Council voted on Wednesday to renovate and expand Terminal 3 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The council approved an $18 million contract to modernize the terminal over the next five years, a cost Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio said is an obvious necessity.
“This revitalization project is needed long-term for the viability of our city, for the viability of our region,” said DiCiccio.
In order to increase Terminal 3’s capacity, Terminal 2 will eventually be torn down to make way for more gates and security checkpoints.
