Study: Younger Arizonans tend to drive less

PHOENIX — A first-of-its-kind study released by the Arizona PIRG Education Fund showed younger Arizonans prefer to find other means of transportation instead of using their vehicles.

“Since 2006, we’re driving 9.3 few miles on the road per person, said spokeswoman Serena Unrein. “They’re looking for options, anything from walking or biking to work to taking light rail.”

The research suggested part of the reason Millenials drive less is technology and programs like bike or car sharing are providing them ways to cut down on miles behind the wheel.

“This data is important so decision-makers are using our scarce transportation dollars appropriately,” said Unrein.
