SR 64 reopens within Grand Canyon National Park

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, State Route 64 in Grand Canyon National Park was reopened Saturday.

On Friday, Gov. Jan Brewer struck a deal with the U.S. Department of Interior to reopen the park for at least the next week, despite the federal government shutdown.

The 30-mile-long SR 64, which leads to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, is actually owned and operated by the federal government.

North Rim access is still available via SR 67, which has not yet closed for winter.

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, including Lake Powell, also reopened at noon Saturday.
