AZ driver was texting before vehicle hit by train

PHOENIX — A driver whose pickup truck was struck by a train in Sun City
says he was texting seconds before the accident.

Michael Patrick wasn’t injured in the crash early Monday, but he was arrested
on two misdemeanor warrants and was charged with driving without a license.

Patrick told Phoenix TV station KTVK that he was texting
and driving when he lost control.

He veered across three lanes of traffic before he got stuck on the train tracks
near Grand and 99th avenues.

Patrick jumped out just before the train hit his vehicle.

The train dragged the truck 30 to 40 feet before it was able to stop.

Patrick says that after his near-death experience, he wanted to tell his story
to keep other drivers from texting while driving.
