19 get sick in hazmat situation off I-17 in north Phoenix

PHOENIX — A chemical odor has sickened almost two dozen employees of a landfill company building near Interstate 17 and Dixileta Drive in north Phoenix on Tuesday morning. Emergency responders are on the scene.
Initially four workers became sick around 8 a.m., after a chemical spill at the Northgate Landfill building. Employees were evacuated but after a while were sent back inside. Eventually 14 others were affected by the odor.
Boulder Creek High School is about two miles away.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Larry Nunez said some of the workers were sent to hospitals.
