Think Pink: It’s the ‘breast’ of Scottsdale!

LISTEN: The 'Breast of Scottsdale'

Okay, let the jokes roll.

Just the title of this party alone brings up all kinds of images of Scottsdale and it’s cosmetic surgery reputation.

This party is loud and proud, there’ll be women dressed to the nines — guys too — and it celebrates women and breasts. It’s all to promote Breast Cancer Awareness and a second opinion for those who have been diagnosed with the dread disease.

Did I mention that second opinion is free?

The second annual “Breast of Scottsdale” is being held Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Herb Box in Old Town Scottsdale, located at 7144 E. Stetson Dr., No. 305. Pink drinks, pink pastries, photos, raffles, music and more and tickets are only $25.

But after the music stops, the glasses and platters have been washed and the pink pumps packed away, there will still be women in Arizona trying to figure out what to do about the diagnosis of breast cancer they just received from their doctor.

Chris Fenwick is the executive director of the Arizona Institute for Breast Health. I told Fenwick recently that I didn’t even realize the AIBH existed and you may not have either. But with breast cancer — the most common form of cancer diagnosed in women in America — the chances that you or someone you may know will be touched by it are very real. Fenwick explained exactly how the AIBH helps women with breast cancer and how she sure could have used a place like AIBH a few years ago.

“I had to go out of state to obtain a second opinion and I kind of created my own AIBH panel in that I had a conference call with my surgeon, my plastic surgeon, the pathologist, my daughter and we kind of all got on the phone and made sure the right had was doing what the left hand was [doing].”

The Herb Box General Manager Jennifer Velazquez is also a breast cancer survivor, a big reason she wanted to be involved in this endeavor by hosting the party at the restaurant. All of the proceeds of the “Breast of Scottsdale” go to support AIBH.

Partygoers will also be able to purchase a pink lightbulb to help cast a beautiful glow along the Marshall Way Bridge all October long. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We want to hear from you.
