Phoenix suburb ready to train next generation’s Bill Gates

PHOENIX — The Mesa Public Library is hoping to produce some future tech giants. A new, free program is going to teach kids how to write computer code.

Lily King-Cisneros, a spokeswoman for the City of Mesa, said the Code Club is offered every week, and gives kids ages 8-18 the chance to learn programming, animation and computer games.

“It’s pretty basic,” said King-Cisneros, “but if it encourages children who maybe have that interest, it’ll spur them on to maybe go down that path in a future career.”

The Code Club will meet every Thursday starting Sept. 12.
